ABOUT WRITER UNDER WRAPS

Writer Under Wraps is a meeting/workplace where people who want to write can stoke their creative fires.

The main focus of the writing program is the weekly writing workshops where people of diverse backgrounds, ages, and levels of writing experience can find a supportive and confidential environment to put their pens on paper. The ambience of the workshops encourages participants to stretch and experiment in their writing, and enables them to find and strengthen their authentic voices.

Writer Under Wraps workshops are based the Amherst Writers & Artists (AWA) method, which is described in Writing Alone and with Others (Oxford Press, 2003) by AWA founder Pat Schneider.

ABOUT TRISH LAMBERT (by Trish Lambert)

Each of us has our own story about how we came to write. Here’s a bit of mine.

I have been in love with the written word from as far back as I can remember. Reading is a precursor to writing, I think. I learned to read before kindergarten and was a voracious reader all through my childhood and teen years. I remember reading The Wizard of Oz – the entire book – in one day around the age of nine, and I became a fan of Lord of the Rings before I made it to junior high (I saved my babysitting money to buy the hardbound trilogy!).

I have also loved words and how they work for a long time. I was a spelling champion (in my own little grade school) in first grade, and loved learning new words and where they came from.

With my love of reading and of words, the intense desire to put my own thoughts and stories on paper was a natural follow on.

I dabbled in all kinds of writing in my teen and early adult years, then corralled myself into the world of business and technical writing for more years than I care to count. My creative impulse eventually rebelled, and I took up journaling, then essay writing.

I have been a member of a number of writing groups, and have enjoyed participating in writing retreats and marathons. My introduction to the AWA method was wonderful - a yoga/writing retreat co-hosted by Patricia Lee Lewis, a poet and AWA workshop facilitator.

Practically from the moment my pen hit the paper, I knew that I had encountered something wonderful, both for myself and for my writing.

It wasn't long before I sat in a room with Patricia once again, this time for my certification in the AWA method.

Today I am a published non-fiction writer and write commercially as part of my marketing consulting practice, 4-R Marketing. I also have one-third of a novel residing on my computer hard drive, and am in the process of writing and publishing a "how to" book for virtual entrepreneurs. Facilitating my own AWA workshops is "soul work," and it infuses all of my writing with a depth and quality that would be missing without it.
